Geneva: A Journey from Lake Geneva to the UN Headquarters

Nestled amidst the picturesque landscapes of Switzerland, Geneva ⭐, the city of peace and international diplomacy, beckons travelers with its captivating blend of natural beauty, historical significance, and cultural vibrancy. Renowned for its serene Lake Geneva, a shimmering expanse of blue that mirrors the grandeur of the surrounding Alps, and its role as the headquarters of the United Nations, a beacon of global cooperation, Geneva offers a unique and unforgettable travel experience.

Headquarters of the United Nations

The United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), also known as the Palais des Nations, is the second largest United Nations center after the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. It is located in Geneva, Switzerland, and serves as a hub for international diplomacy and cooperation.

The UNOG is a popular tourist destination and offers guided tours of the Palais des Nations. Visitors can learn about the history of the UN and its work in Geneva. They can also see the iconic Assembly Hall, the main meeting room for the UN General Assembly, and the Salle des Pas Perdus, a large gallery that is adorned with murals and sculptures.

Broken Chair of Geneva

"Broken Chair of Geneva" is a monumental wooden sculpture created by Swiss artist Daniel Berset. It stands approximately 12 meters tall and depicts a giant chair with a broken leg. The sculpture is located directly across from the UNOG.

According to Berset, the Broken Chair is a symbol of the victims of landmines and other weapons of war. The broken leg of the chair represents the suffering and loss that these weapons cause. The sculpture also serves as a reminder of the importance of working towards a world without violence.

Lake Geneva

Geneva is beautifully situated on Lake Geneva. The lake is a major attraction in its own right, and there are many opportunities to enjoy its beauty, from taking a boat ride to simply strolling along the lakeside.

On October 04, 2023, we meandered along the tranquil shores of Lake Geneva and captured the below photos that perfectly encapsulate the serene beauty of the lakeside.
