Walking Oslo: A Close‑Up Look at Norway’s Capital

Image
Grand Hotel Oslo on  Karl Johans gt Oslo ’s centre is compact and easy to walk: neighborhoods run into one another along wide streets, the waterfront, and parks that feel like part of the city rather than separate attractions. Forest and fjord sit close at hand, and just beyond the built-up edge the hills, lakes, and marked trails begin — routes many locals treat as an ordinary extension of the day. The museum map runs from the Edvard Munch Museum, home of The Scream, to Vikingskipshuset on Bygdøy. The old Viking Ship Museum has been closed since 2021 and is being rebuilt as the Museum of the Viking Age (Vikingtidsmuseet), with a planned reopening in late 2027. Nærøyfjord—a Branch of the Large Sognefjord The  Nærøyfjord  ⭐⭐is a fjord in  Aurland , Norway. The narrow fjord is a branch of the large  Sognefjord , and it is featured on the "Norway in a Nutshell" daytrips for tourists. The 18-kilometre long fjord is only 500 meters wide in some parts. [1]   There are a few different versions of this tour, depending on whether you’ll be departing from Oslo, Bergen, Voss, or  Flåm , but they all have  the same objective :  to take you through the beautiful scenery of the  Flåm Railway , Aurlandsfjord, Nærøyfjord, and Stalheimskleiva .   Norway in a Nutshell   isn’t a guided tour, it just provides you with a set of tickets , all of which you  could book independently for much cheaper . Boat trips are popular through this famed, narrow arm of the  Songefjord  with greenery & waterfalls. Ferry boat from  Flåm   to  Gudvangen Route of boat ride (dotted red line is th...

Flåm, Norway: A Gateway to the Fjords

Image
Flåm ⭐is the fjord-side terminus of the famous Flåmsbana Railway Line , one of the steepest and most scenic of its kind. Flåm is a village in southwestern Norway, in an area known for its fjords. It sits at the end of Aurlandsfjord, a branch of the vast Sognefjord. The dramatic Stegastein viewing platform juts out high above the Aurlandsfjord. The Flåm Railway offers valley and waterfall views as it climbs to a station on the Hardangervidda plateau. Flåm is the launch pad for our train and boat journeys into its surrounding mountains and fjords.
