In the heart of the Swiss canton of Ticino lies the picturesque town of Bellinzona, home to three majestic medieval castles that have been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2000. Of these, the Grand Castle, also known as Castelgrande⭐⭐, is the largest and most impressive.
Standing proudly on a rocky hilltop overlooking the town and the surrounding valley, Castelgrande offers breathtaking views and a fascinating glimpse into medieval military architecture. The castle's imposing walls, towers, and gates are a testament to its strategic importance, which made it a coveted prize for many centuries.
Below Castelgrande, the charming medieval town of Bellinzona invites visitors to wander its cobblestone streets, browse its exquisite small shops, and savor the delicious local cuisine at its many cozy restaurants.

- By elevator: This is the quickest and easiest way to reach the castle grounds. The elevator is located at the foot of the rock and takes you to the top in just a few minutes.
- On foot: For a more challenging and rewarding experience, you can climb the steep, narrow streets from the town center through the town wall onto the castle grounds. This takes about 30 minutes.
