Selective Splendor: Goryokaku Offers Partial Illumination Near the Tower |
As twilight paints the sky, Goryokaku transforms into a captivating spectacle. The tower, a beacon above the star-shaped fort, presides over nearly 1,600 cherry trees adorned with soft illuminations. The renowned Somei Yoshino variety casts a magical, ethereal glow, bathing the grounds in a breathtaking display.
While not all trees are illuminated, the effect is no less enchanting. Until 9:00 PM, the gentle play of light and shadow transforms the landscape into a harmonious blend of history and natural beauty. It's a must-see for anyone seeking a moment of tranquility and awe under the springtime night sky.

A pleasant surprise awaited me on the evening of April 21st, 2024. My tram ride from Shiyakusho-mae to Goryokaku Tower revealed a smaller-than-expected crowd. While there were still many people enjoying the night, it felt less crowded than I had anticipated. Here are some photos I captured during my stroll around the Tower.
