Chasing Audrey's Dream: Gelato and Glamour on the Spanish Steps

Located in Rome, Italy, the Spanish Steps ⭐⭐are a monumental staircase which was popularized by the movie Roman Holiday.  Now it becomes a must-see destination for tourists visiting Rome.

Roman Holiday

Released in 1953, Roman Holiday is a romantic comedy starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. The film tells the story of Princess Ann, a bored and restricted royal, who escapes her guards during a visit to Rome and meets an American journalist, Joe Bradley. The scene where they eat gelato on the Spanish Steps is one of the most famous in cinematic history.

The movie helped to popularize the Spanish Steps and made them a must-see destination for tourists visiting Rome.

On October 25, 2023, we walked from Villa Borghese and approached the Spanish Steps via Via Sistina. The first sight that greeted us was the Sallustiano Obelisk. Next, we arrived at the Trinità dei Monti church, where the breathtaking panoramic view of Florence suddenly unfolded before us. Finally, we strolled down the Spanish Steps, retracing Audrey Hepburn's steps and reliving her excitement from the movie scene.
