Wengen in Lauterbrunnen: A Pristine Swiss Village (Photo Essay)

Wengen: An Alpine Paradise (YouTube link)

Jungfrau Region

The Jungfrau (meaning "virgin") region begins in Interlaken, the largest town in the region. Interlaken is easy to reach by train and car. The Jungfrau region stretches out to the Jungfrau mountain range in the south, which is UNESCO World Heritage. There's a lot of beautiful alpine nature and several little villages. Many people consider the Jungfrau region as a "must-see" in Switzerland.

Getting up into a car-free village gives one a much more “old Switzerland” feel.   The views (watch video) around Wengen itself are awesome.  We have stayed at Hotel Bären in Wengen and used it as our home base to explore the Jungfraujoch and the Schilthorn for an up-close view of the Alps. Some hiking is a must.  For example, here are some recommendations:
  1. Murren to Gimmelward
  2. Walks in the Lauterbrunnen valley (Trümmelbach Falls & Staubbach Waterfall)
  3. Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg
