Shinto shrines are a big part of everyday life in Japan. While religious practice in Japan can vary greatly, a beautiful blend of Buddhist and Shinto customs has woven itself into the tapestry of daily life.  One such practice is visiting a Shinto shrine to pray to the kami, the spirits that embody natural forces and deities revered in the Shinto religion. These visits, often accompanied by rituals like bowing, clapping, and offering prayers, offer a sense of peace and connection to the divine, seeking blessings and guidance for daily life. Towering over Tainan's skyline, the Anping Old Fort ⭐, once known as Fort Zeelandia, whispers tales of a bygone era. Built in the 17th century by the Dutch East India Company, its sturdy walls served as a defensive stronghold and administrative center, witnessing the ebb and flow of history.  From the handover of Taiwan to the Qing Dynasty to the siege by the legendary Zheng Chenggong (Koxinga), these red bricks hold the echoes of empires and battles.  Though scarred by time and war, the Anping Old Fort stands tall, a testament to resilience and a beacon inviting us to delve into the rich tapestry of Taiwan's past. Olmsted Island Overlook Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historic Park, Great Falls Maryland Great Falls Park ⭐is located within the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park (C&O Canal NHP), which stretches 184.5 miles along the Potomac River from Georgetown, D.C., to Cumberland, Maryland. Great Falls itself lies about 14 miles upstream from Washington, D.C. within this larger C&O Canal NHP park . The construction of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal in the 19th century significantly impacted the Great Falls area. The canal’s route needed to circumvent the falls, leading to the building of impressive engineering feats like the C&O Canal Towpath and aqueduct across the river. This infrastructure became inextricably linked to the history of the falls. Five-Storied Pagoda and Hōzōmon Gate Senso-ji  and  Asakusa  ⭐⭐are intimately linked. The two names are written using the same Chinese characters (浅草) but pronounced differently, "senso" being the Chinese pronunciation and "asakusa" the native Japanese.
