Bells, Bows, and Blessings: A Ritual Experience at Yasaka Shrine

Shinto shrines are a big part of everyday life in Japan. While religious practice in Japan can vary greatly, a beautiful blend of Buddhist and Shinto customs has woven itself into the tapestry of daily life.

One such practice is visiting a Shinto shrine to pray to the kami, the spirits that embody natural forces and deities revered in the Shinto religion. These visits, often accompanied by rituals like bowing, clapping, and offering prayers, offer a sense of peace and connection to the divine, seeking blessings and guidance for daily life.

On May 14, 2023, as we traverse the shrine grounds of Yasaka Shrine (八坂神社⭐), a profound sense of peace and connection washes over us. We depart not only with blessings bestowed, but also with a deeper understanding of Japanese culture and spirituality.
