Lisbon Travel―Visiting Praça do Comércio and Its Nearby Areas

Image
Praça do Comércio facing the Tagus (Tejo) to the South Praça do Comércio (or Town Center⭐⭐) is the most magnificent plaza in Lisbon, and one of the highlights of the city. [1] The plaza reflected the wealth and ambitions of Portugal during the late 18th century. It was here that captains and merchants would plan perious sea-voyages to Brazil, India and South East Asia and then trade their goods on returning.   Photo Gallery The following photos were taken between January 2nd and 3rd, 2023, on both of which the weather was sunny. As these dates fell within the New Year holiday period, all the Christmas lights remained lit on the streets. Lisbon's Gothic Gem: Get Lost in the Enchanting Jerónimos Monastery

Image
Belém is a district 40-minutes drive away from the Lisbon city center.  Among the area's shaded green lawns are historic landmarks that recall Portugal’s seafaring past, like the 16th-century Tower of Belém and the sail-shaped Discoveries Monument . Nearby also stands the Jerónimos Monastery (Portuguese: Mosteiro dos Jerónimos ⭐).  It is a former monastery of the  Order of Saint Jerome .   Jerónimos Monastery The Monastery's courtyard is remarkably calm and beautiful, boasting fine and delicate stone carvings. A visit is highly recommended, but remember to first purchase your tickets from the machines at the Archaeological Museum entrance before joining the queue for the Monastery. Personally, I found booking online in advance to be quite convenient. Photo Gallery The below photos were taken on 01/04/2023, a sunny day. A long queue in the early morning (my wait time: 20 mins)

Lisbon Sunset Cruise: A Magical Way to End Your Day in Lisbon

Image
View from a Sunset Cruise with FRS  (⭐⭐ ) Photo Gallery These photos were taken on a beautiful, sunny day: January 3rd, 2023 . At least two river cruises offer sunset options. I chose the  FRS  cruise, which I believe is superior. It lasts a comfortable 1.5 hours, not too long as the other 2-hour option, and is more affordable with a discount. Snacks and a drink of your choice are included as well. This 1.5-hour FRS cruise unveils some of Lisbon's most famous landmarks, including the MAAT,  Belém Tower , Padrão dos Descobrimentos, 25th of April Bridge, and National Sanctuary of Christ the King. FRS Portugal also provides scenic and romantic  Sunset Cruises  (only one time slot per day) along the Tagus River. This 1.5-hour sunset cruise option offers a romantic and relaxing experience as the sun sets over Lisbon.  Port of embarkation Praça do Comércio (Town square) Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology Padrão dos Descobrimentos Torre de Belém Golde...
