Belém is a district 40-minutes drive away from the Lisbon city center. Among the area's shaded green lawns are historic landmarks that recall Portugal’s seafaring past, like the 16th-century Tower of Belém and the sail-shaped Discoveries Monument. Nearby also stands the Jerónimos Monastery (Portuguese: Mosteiro dos Jerónimos⭐). It is a former monastery of the Order of Saint Jerome.
Jerónimos Monastery
The Monastery's courtyard is remarkably calm and beautiful, boasting fine and delicate stone carvings. A visit is highly recommended, but remember to first purchase your tickets from the machines at the Archaeological Museum entrance before joining the queue for the Monastery. Personally, I found booking online in advance to be quite convenient.
