A traditional Gassho-zukuri House Nestled Beneath Mount Fuji (a photo exhibit at MOA) The Kawaguchiko Museum of Art , situated on Lake Kawaguchi, features a permanent collection of paintings, prints, and photographs showcasing Mount Fuji from various angles and seasons. The entire collection is easily explored in an hour or two, perfect for a quick visit. Unveiling Mount Fuji at the Kawaguchiko Museum of Art   (YouTube  link ) Exploring the Kawaguchiko Museum of Art During my visit on April 3, 2024, I stopped by the museum after walking from the Kubota Itchiku Art Museum . Originally, I had planned to visit the Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum , but it was closed that day (Wednesday). The MOA offers a pleasant open field with views of Lake Kawaguchi, although I couldn’t spot Mount Fuji from its location. Veiled Majesty: Finding Beauty in Lake Kawaguchi's Mist

Image
A Brushstroke in Black and White: Lake Kawaguchi's Tranquil Embrace Lake Kawaguchi  is the most easily accessible of the  Fuji Five Lakes  and offers postcard-worthy views of Mt. Fuji from all around the lake. You can frame a snow-capped Fuji with cherry blossoms from  Ubuyagasaki  in spring, or capture the mountain from  Oishi Park  in early summer when lavender is in bloom. Fuji Kawaguchiko Autumn Leaves Festival (富士河口湖紅葉まつり) is also one of the most popular autumn events in Japan. The festival takes place at the northern shore of  Lake Kawaguchi , one of the Fuji Five Lakes  from early to late November every year . Finding Beauty in Lake Kawaguchi's Mist   (YouTube  link ) Lake Kawaguchi's Ethereal Beauty While Mount Fuji hid behind a veil of clouds on my visit to Lake Kawaguchi, the scene held a unique beauty. The mist clung to the hilltops, creating an ethereal landscape reminiscent of a Chinese black-and-white mountain painting...

A Stairway to Serenity: Witnessing Mt. Fuji from Chureito Pagoda

Image
As dusk settled, streetlamps flickered to life The Chureito Pagoda (忠霊塔, Chūreitō⭐) stands as a five-storied pagoda on the mountainside overlooking Fujiyoshida City and Mount Fuji in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. Built in 1963 as a peace memorial, it is part of the Arakura Sengen Shrine complex.  To reach the pagoda, visitors ascend nearly 400 steps from the shrine’s main buildings. The location offers spectacular views of Mount Fuji, especially during the cherry blossom season in mid-April and the autumn color season in the first half of November. Photographers particularly appreciate this spot for its quintessentially Japanese vistas.  Unveiling the Vista: From Hillside Trail to  Chureito Pagoda  (YouTube  link ) Sunset Magic at Chureito Pagoda On a crisp April day, I embarked on a journey to witness its magic at sunset. A brief ten-minute walk from Shimo-Yoshida Station on the Fujikyu Line led me to the base of the hill. As I ascended for five minutes, th...

Ubuyagasaki: A Window to Mount Fuji’s Magnificent Vistas

Image
Ubuyagasaki graces the shores of Lake Kawaguchi , nestled beside the grand Lake Kawaguchi Great Bridge . This picturesque spot is conveniently reachable by either car or bus from Fujikawaguchiko Station , with the added convenience of a parking area situated in close proximity. Ubuyagasaki  offers a pristine panorama of Mount Fuji, particularly on days when the sky is clear. The placid surface of Lake Kawaguchi serves as a canvas, capturing the majestic reflection of Mount Fuji and creating a breathtaking ‘mirror effect.’ This tranquil haven stands apart, providing a respite from the lively atmosphere found at other attractions around the Fuji Five Lakes. In essence,  Ubuyagasaki  is an enchanting and tranquil locale that merits a visit when one finds themselves nearby. Spectacular views of Mount Fuji  (YouTube  link ) Photo Gallery On April 1st, 2024, I enjoyed a walk from my hotel to the Great Bridge. Along the way, I shared the path with cyclists who were al...
