From Fortress Walls to Stunning Views: Exploring Lisbon's Torre de Belém

Belém Tower

Belém Tower (Portuguese: Torre de Belém ⭐), a 16th-century fortification in Lisbon, served as both a point of embarkation and disembarkation for Portuguese explorers and a ceremonial gateway to the city.

Since 1983, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site alongside the Jerónimos Monastery. Often portrayed as a symbol of Europe's Age of Discoveries and, given its landmark status, a metonym for Portugal or Lisbon, the tower holds significant historical and cultural value.

On January 3rd and 4th, 2023, both sunny days, I took these photos during a boat ride and while walking from the Jerónimos Monastery to the Padrão dos Descobrimentos and then the Belém Tower.
