Walking Oslo: A Close‑Up Look at Norway’s Capital

Grand Hotel Oslo on  Karl Johans gt Oslo ’s centre is compact and easy to walk: neighborhoods run into one another along wide streets, the waterfront, and parks that feel like part of the city rather than separate attractions. Forest and fjord sit close at hand, and just beyond the built-up edge the hills, lakes, and marked trails begin — routes many locals treat as an ordinary extension of the day. The museum map runs from the Edvard Munch Museum, home of The Scream, to Vikingskipshuset on Bygdøy. The old Viking Ship Museum has been closed since 2021 and is being rebuilt as the Museum of the Viking Age (Vikingtidsmuseet), with a planned reopening in late 2027.
