Vyšehrad ( Czech for "upper castle") is a historic fort in Prague, Czech Republic, just over 3 km southeast of Prague Castle , on the east bank of the Vltava River .  It was probably built in the 10th century. Inside the fort are the Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul and the Vyšehrad Cemetery , containing the remains of many famous Czechs, such as Antonín Dvořák , Bedřich Smetana , Karel Čapek , and Alphonse Mucha . It also contains Prague's oldest Rotunda of St. Martin, from the 11th century. Prague Castle , a UNESCO World Heritage site, consists of a large-scale composition of palaces and ecclesiastical buildings of various architectural styles, from the remains of Romanesque-style buildings from the 10th century through Gothic modifications of the 14th century.  One of the gems in the Prague Castle complex is St. Vitus Cathedral ⭐: St. Vitus Cathedral is the largest and the most important temple in Prague. Apart from religious services, coronations of Czech kings and queens also took place here. The cathedral is a place of burial of several patron saints, sovereigns, noblemen and archbishops.
