Waterton Lakes National Park ⭐butts up against the US-Canada border, beyond which spreads Glacier National Park in Montana to the south. At Waterton town, a waiter told us that if you choose to drive, it will take you 30 minutes to the border. However, if you swim, it will only take 10 minutes. It is famous for its string of deep lakes shimmering beneath the jagged mountains and Prince of Wales Hotel on the bluff.
Waterton Lakes National Park is in southern Alberta, Canada, bordering Montana’s Glacier National Park. It’s known for its chain of lakes, including the large Upper and Middle Waterton lakes, flanked by the Rocky Mountains. The Red Rock Parkway crosses the prairie to the small Red Rock Canyon. Bison graze near the Bison Paddock Loop Road. In Waterton village, a pathway offers close-up views of Cameron Falls.
If you plan to visit the Waterton-Galcier International Peace Park and need to cross the border, be warned that not all US/Canada Customs open for 24 hours. Here are their opening dates and times:
U.S. side hours of operation – 8am to 6pm MT, 7 days a week.
Canada side hours of operation – 7 am to 11 pm MT, 7 days a week
Chief Mountain Customs (Important note: This border crossing was closed because of the low traffic volumes caused by the Covid-19 travel restrictions. Currently, only the Canadian side is open, and the U.S. has extended the closure “until further notice.”)
